i think i'm addicted to this song...nina simone's version is solid but joy denalane,chiwoniso,sara tavares and deborah totally took it to the next level. essentially a sad song speaking of the challenges of being a multi cultural / mixed race woman and mother and the effects that has on a child in society...about hatred and war and subsequent liberation...[yes i googled the lyrics! for years i listened to it and had no clue what it all meant, so i kinda mumbled on and made my own words up as i went along. lol ] my good friend thenji and i have been going back n forth chatting in those lyrics like its normal conversation.kwaaaa...i doubt she has any flippen idea wat she's saying tho...hehehehe!

wit that said, one still gets the sense that the song has profound and intense message just from the immense emotion these four women exude.
